Help us make panel discussions more inclusive — share your experience

We’re inviting people from underrepresented backgrounds to share their experiences of being asked to speak on panels and at industry events within the built environment sector.

Too often, we hear stories of speakers being invited last minute, asked only to speak about diversity, or feeling like a “tick-box” rather than a valued contributor. We want to understand the full picture - and work towards meaningful change.

Our short survey explores:

  • What makes panel invitations feel authentic (or tokenistic)

  • Barriers that stop people from saying yes to speaking opportunities

  • How organisations can better engage diverse voices

  • Examples of who’s getting it right - and where improvement is needed

Your responses will feed into a report we’ll be sharing with organisations across the built environment sector. The aim is simple: to help events become more inclusive, representative, and respectful of the people they invite to speak.

The survey is anonymous unless you choose to share your contact details. It only takes 10–15 minutes, and your input could make a real difference.

Have thoughts about the topic? Want to speak further? We’d love to hear from you.

Let’s create spaces where all voices are heard - not just seen.
